Domaine Michel Lafarge’s origins date back to the 19th century. Following Michel’s passing in 2020, his son Frédéric and granddaughter Clothilde continue to honour his legacy by producing some of the greatest wines in Volnay. Winemaking is traditional, with grapes being destemmed and very little new oak used. The estate’s hens take care of any pests in the vines. No chemical fertilisers are used – probably because they were never used in the first place, when they became popular in the ‘60s. Michel’s friends thought he was crazy for spurning their use, but he must have been on to something, since these days the pendulum has swung away from them again. There’s something to be said for doing things your own way.
