Wasenhaus, 'Kalk' Spätburgunder 2023
Place: Baden, Germany
Grape: Pinot Noir
Vibe: Classic, lighter
Kalk is limestone in German and the fruit comes from 40-year-old vines in Markgräflerland. Around 40% whole cluster, open-top fermented, and aged 16 months in mostly used barrels. Dark cherry and spice. I know it's lazy to compare very good Pinot to Burgundy but this really does feel quite similar. Ageworthy yet immediate. ABV: 13%
