Based in Kitzingen, northern Bavaria, 2NaturKinder is the project of Melanie Drese and Michael Völker, who took over Michael’s family winery in 2012 and turned it on its head. They converted everything to organic farming, stopped using additives (including sulphur), and began producing wines that speak purely of fruit and place. The vineyards planted mostly to Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, and Pinot varieties sit on limestone and shell-rich soils along the Main River, and are full of life thanks to cover crops, and compost. In the cellar, it's spontaneous ferments, long lees ageing, and zero fining or filtration. The result is a range of expressive, textural wines that balance freshness with depth and complexity.
