If you need an introduction, Anders and Anne are based in the Ardèche, working with local fruit while also maintaining a separate cellar in Alsace. In a previous life, Anders was both a chef and a sommelier at a time when Noma was considered the best restaurant in the world. He befriended the iconic and enigmatic Jurassian, Jean-Marc Brignot, and soon began exploring fruit from the Ardèche thanks to the generosity of the team at Le Mazel.

Fast forward to today, and his bottles are some of the most instantly recognisable on any shelf, not just for their minimalist labels and often “interesting,” to say the least, names, but for what is inside. These wines can taste wild if you have not spent much time in natural wine circles. Every release is different. Nothing is ever done the same way, just as no two vintages are identical. They push boundaries and are always evolving.

These wines are not for everyone and certainly not for the faint of heart. But some of the most moving wines I have ever drunk have come from this cellar. If your Instagram feed is anything like mine, the comment sections under posts featuring these bottles often spark heated debate. Love them or hate them, that is not for me to decide. For me, I treasure them for their wild, uncompromising expression of year and place.
