Since bursting onto the scene in 2019, Bastian Wolber’s stock has been on a meteoric rise.

His start in winemaking was as unexpected as it was serendipitous. While working harvest with the iconic Jean-François Ganevat in 2019, Bastian suffered a serious skating injury that sidelined him from the cellar, a frustrating setback at the time.

But rather than sit the vintage out, Bastian turned adversity into opportunity. He sourced a few small parcels of négociant fruit from trusted friends and family and began producing wines under his own label. Early efforts included fruit from Burgundy, Alsace, and Germany all vinified at his brother’s estate, Wasenhaus.

Now based in Volnay, Bastian has sharpened his focus on Burgundy, though he still ventures into Baden and Alsace from time to time. As he puts it: “I just love Riesling.” Me too Basti!

Along the way, he’s gained experience with some of the finest names in wine: Jean-Yves Bizot, Trossen, and Domaine Leflaive, to name a few.

His ‘Laisse Tomber’ range is made from purchased grapes, always organically or biodynamically farmed but the real excitement lies in his own newly farmed plot of Pinot Noir, now being released in tiny quantities.

As always, allocations are ultra-limited and highly sought-after.
