Ben Adams: Enmill Field, Pinot 2022
Place: England
Grape: 68% Pinot Meunier + 32% Pinot Noir
Vibe: Fresh
An 8-day whole bunch maceration, then pressed into old 228L and 400L barrels. Exceptional fruit, beautifully handled with no additions, and bottled by gravity. Ethereal and crunchy, this has to be the most precise English red I’ve tasted. It’s the first wine from these baby vines, and it manages to capture all that youthful vigour. Compelling stuff!
In wine, we tend to fetishise the complexity of old vines but there’s something to be said for the raw energy of a first crop. Outrageously well-priced considering the quality, from farming right through to the glass. ABV: 11.5%.
