Guillaume Gilles, Cornas 2021
Place: Northern Rhône, France
Grape: Syrah
Vibe: Natural, richer
Good traditional whole-cluster Cornas. Hard to beat. From Chaillot, where a myriad of massal clippings and different clones were planted by local legend Robert Michel. Very steep S/SE-facing slopes, specifically the lieux-dits of Les Terrasses on pure granite and Les Grands Murs on granite with loess and sandstone. At once both classic yet wild, plenty of black fruit cut up with lavender and fresh herbs. There’s some structure here but the tannin has gone so smooth already, the vintage bringing plenty of cleansing acid. Jeez. ABV: 13%
