Hugo Vercasson, Face à Pierre Blanche 2023
Place: Rhône, France
Grape: Marsanne + Viogner
Vibe: Floral + Textured
Two varieties that usually get me sweatin’ and not in a good way. But when they’re done right, the result can be something breathtaking. Case in point: this. Textured and round, with all the stone-fruited florals you'd expect. But what really sets it apart is a vibrant acidity and this almost Chenin-esque lanolin note that drives down the palate. Something that’s usually flabby and flamboyant is suddenly utterly drinkable. Can’t get over how good this is. Bravo, Hugo! No surprise he spent time with the master of Rhône whites, Jef of Domaine L’Iserand. ABV: 12%
