Kalma, Rosso 'Heliocentric' 2024
Place: Sicily, Italy
Grape: Nero d’Avola, Frappato
Vibe: Vibey
This is effectively Cerasuolo di Vittoria, the top appellation in these parts, but not labelled as such as they don't bother. If only. Co-ferment of 70% Nero d'Avola and 30% Frappato gets done rapidly, which is good when working with zero adds, before blending and settling in old tonneau and fibreglass. Ultra fragrant and alluring, perfume is no issue with these Kalma wines. There's some fruit weight and palate density, as you'd expect, but it never gets tiring or hard work. Basically a dream. ABV: 12%
