Marto, Côte de Flon 2023
Place: Rheinhessen, Germany
Grape: Riesling, Silvaner, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir
Vibe: Creamy
A little Germanic nod to the wines of the Cote Dor. Funnily enough, I reckon I first tasted this at a Salon in Burgundy and I distincly remember it blowing its contemporaries out of the water. The Rheinhessen really can do it all!
Stylistically very different to the rest of the range yet still with their hallmark minerality. Aged in large format, but some new barrels so were cushioned by a masterful kiss of oak. I sometimes struggle with oak influence, but don't be like me, don't be scared. It doesn't mask the fruit, it shapes it. Will more than scratch the Burgundy itch, will leave you with some change too. ABV: 12.5%
