Marto’s Martin Wörner is at the head of the new wave of winemakers in Germany. He comes from an agricultural background – his grandfather was one of the first in the village to bottle his own grapes instead of selling them off to other producers. His father was less interested in wine, more into growing strawberries – then Martin took over in 2015 and ramped things up a notch. He earned his stripes working at Gut Oggau and Matassa, and now oversees five hectares, which are farmed organically with some biodynamics thrown in too. All work in the vineyard is done by hand, and the wines are unfined and unfiltered with no additions. Joined by his partner Alanna, the wines have gone from strength to strength with each passing vintage. There is such energy on show throughout the range, wines teeming with life.
