The Raffault family winemaking tradition goes back five generations. In 1947 Olga’s husband and business partner died unexpectedly, and the mantle was picked up by one of the estate’s employees, a repentant German soldier who wanted to repay the kindness the family had shown him. So he dedicated his life to the estate, becoming the winemaker at the domaine and mentoring Olga’s son. Legend! These days the estate is run by Olga’s granddaughter Sylvie, her husband and their son. The vines are planted in some of Chinon’s most coveted terrain, and the Raffaults are among Chinon’s benchmark producers.
